A Little Magic Before the Storm
Before the nor'easter arrived, the sky gave us a little warning.
A rainbow stretched across the evening sky, glowing against shades of pink and purple.
We stopped to look.
We didn't know exactly what the night was going to bring yet. We just knew the sky was beautiful.
A little while later, the storm arrived.
It reminded me how easy it is to miss moments like this when we're busy rushing from one thing to the next.
We're always thinking about what's coming next.
The next appointment.
The next practice.
The next errand.
The next thing on our list.
But
sometimes the most memorable moments aren't planned at all.
Sometimes you just happen to look up.
A rainbow.
A beautiful sunset.
A bird flying overhead.
The sound of waves.
Leaves changing colors.
Clouds moving across the sky.
There is so much happening around us when we slow down enough to notice it.
I think that's something I want to remember as we build our Wild Wander Free life.
Adventure doesn't always mean packing a bag and going somewhere new.
Sometimes adventure is simply being outside.
Sometimes it's taking a different route home.
Sometimes it's stopping to look at the sky.
Sometimes it's finding something beautiful in a completely ordinary day.
I want our life to have more moments like that.
More looking up.
More noticing.
More getting outside just because we can.
More saying, “Look at that.”
Childhood doesn't have to be filled with elaborate plans and expensive adventures. Some of the moments kids remember may be the simplest ones: standing outside together, watching the sky, noticing something we might have otherwise missed.
That rainbow didn't require a trip.
It didn't require a plan.
It was just there.
For a few minutes, we were there too.
Sometimes you just have to look up.
